Man seriously injured in a car fire in Huddersfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a car fire in Huddersfield.

Kirklees CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about or footage of the incident at The Triangle off Market Street in Paddock yesterday ( Thursday 15 July).

Officers were called to the scene at about 3.50pm by the ambulance services who had located a man who had suffered serious burn injuries in a car fire.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service had also attended the scene at which several nearby parked vehicles had been set ablaze by flames.

Firefighters contained and put out the fires and the victim, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious burn injuries. He is described as in a stable condition.

No-one else was injured and a police scene remains in place while investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Will Denton of Kirklees CID, said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this vehicle fire and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

“I would like to reassure residents that, at this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public. "While we are keeping an open mind, our initial enquiries indicate that the ignition of the vehicle, which resulted in injuries to the driver, is not suspicious.
