A Huddersfield man who stabbed another man to death before handing himself in to police four days later has been jailed for 24 years.

25 year old Luke Belbin was found guilty of manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon after an attack on 20 year old Kyrell Fleary-Gayle on January 20 this year.

Kyrell was assaulted outside a home on Greenwood Street and collapsed moments later, dying from a stab wound to the chest.

It's believed he was attacked in a dispute over drugs.

Belbin was then picked up by 20 year old Cameron Boylan, of Fanny Moor Crescent, with Boylan now convicted of assisting an offender.

Belbin was today handed a lengthly prison at Leeds Crown Court, while Boylan was handed a suspended setnece.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson of West Yorkshire Police said: “We welcome the sentencing of these men today following the dreadful events of 20 January this year which resulted in a young man losing his life and robbed a family of a son."

“Luke Belbin had armed himself and, judging by the injuries he inflicted on Kyrell, was willing to use a lethal level of violence on others. We hope Kyrell’s family can take some comfort from seeing him jailed.”

She added: “Kyrell’s manslaughter is another devastating example of the tragic consequences of knife crime in our communities. "

"Significant work remains ongoing across West Yorkshire with the Violence Reduction Partnership to reduce knife crime, including continuing education programmes to deter young people from carrying knives."
