Man dies after car crashes into canal in Saltaire

A car has crashed into the canal in Saltaire.

Police say they were called to Hirst Mill Crescent at around 6.45pm last night.

They go on to say he was rescued from the vehicle and given medical treatment but sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police said:

"Police are investigating after a fatal road traffic collision where a man has died in Saltaire.

"Officers were called at 6.45pm last night (Sunday 7 December) to reports that a car a silver Range Rover Evoque had gone into the canal at Hirst Mill Crescent, Saltaire.

"Emergency services attended and officers entered the water and rescued a man from the vehicle.

"Medical treatment was given to a 74-year-old man but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area prior to the collision or who saw the vehicle enter the water."
