Man charged after three injured in fire at Huddersfield shop

A man has been charged following an arson attack and disturbance at a shop in Huddersfield.

29 year old Jonathan Brook, of Blackmoorfoot Road, appeared before Leeds Magistrates Court charged in connection with the incident at Kaay News, on the same street, on Tuesday night.

Three people required medical assistance after a fire was set at the business.

He is accused of assaulted occasioning actual bodily harm, arson with intent to endanger life and making racially aggravated threats.

Brook has been remanded in custody until March 27.

Detective Inspector Talha Laher, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“Increased patrols are continuing in the area to provide reassurance to the local community following this incident and anyone with immediate concerns is advised to approach a local neighbourhood officer or to contact the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.”
