A BUILDING in Bradford’s historic Little Germany area can be converted into apartments.

11 – 13 Currer Street is one of the numerous listed buildings in this area of the city centre, and was built in 1864.

Earlier this year Mabs Hussain revealed plans to convert the office building into 16 one bed flats. The application said the building has been vacant for over two years, and argued the conversion to flats will help “secure a viable future” for the property.

It claimed there was “reducing demand” for traditional office space in the city centre.

The warehouse/office was designed by acclaimed architect Eli Milnes, and has a palazzo style that is seen in several Victorian buildings in the city.

Planning permission and listed building consent for the works have now been approved by Bradford Council.

Conservation Officer Jon Ackroyd said: “The building makes an important contribution to the conservation area.

“The submission information indicates that there are no elements of significance to the interior of the property due to previous office use and fit-out.

“The application suggests that no external changes are intended.”

The plans have now been approved by Bradford Council. One condition of the approval is that the work must begin within three years, or planning permission will expire.
