Leeds United closing in on deal to sign England goalkeeper James Trafford from Man City

Leeds are close to completing a deal to sign England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City, the Press Association understands.

Daniel Farke’s side are expected to pay £40million for the 23-year-old, who rejoined City last summer on a five-year contract.

A final agreement is yet to be concluded but positive talks are ongoing and Leeds are hopeful of securing his signature.

Trafford had looked set to succeed Ederson as City’s number one before the club also signed Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italian went on to establish himself as first choice, largely restricting Trafford to domestic cup appearances.

He played a full part as City won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup and was included in England’s World Cup squad, but admitted during the campaign that the move had not turned out as planned.

“It wasn’t what I expected coming into the season,” said Trafford in February, having snubbed interest from Newcastle to return to City after a successful spell at Burnley.

Trafford would be expected to become first choice at Leeds following the departure of Karl Darlow to Manchester United.
