Daniel Farke paid tribute to Leeds’ smart summer recruitment policy after Premier League status was secured before Monday’s 1-1 draw away to relegation-threatened Tottenham.

West Ham’s defeat at home to Arsenal on Sunday confirmed Leeds would spend another season in the top-flight and Calvert-Lewin’s 14th goal of a fine campaign earned another point for Farke’s men.

The arrival of Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer along with the addition of free agent Lukas Nmecha, who has contributed seven goals in all competitions, was highlighted to Farke after the 1-1 draw which made seven unbeaten in the Premier League.

Farke said: “Yes, outstanding, and we had to be a bit creative anyhow because we didn’t want to risk the sustainability of this club.

“We have spent less money than many other clubs promoted in the last seasons, but we wanted to be there with a difficult outcome.

“So, we’ve actually spent less money and had a better outcome. This is a difficult blend if I am honest and we managed to do it so everyone deserves well deserved praise.”

Farke credited his players for a memorable season ahead of their final two fixtures.

“We are unbeaten in the league against Liverpool, against Chelsea, against Manchester United, first away win at Old Trafford for four decades, FA Cup semi-final, it couldn’t be much better performance-wise. Perhaps we should be on even more points right now but I couldn’t be prouder of my players,” Farke added.
