Two men have been sentenced to a total of nine years in jail for dealing drugs at Leeds Festival.
Jerome Furusa, 24, and Denzel Mupfudza, 28, were given four years and six months each at Leeds Crown Court on 17th November after pleading guilty to drugs offences and possession of criminal property.
The pair, along with a third man, were approached by festival security staff in Orange Camp on 24th August following reports of suspicious behaviour around tents.
All three agreed to be searched after staff noticed a strong smell of cannabis. During the search, cannabis and bags of white powder were discovered, which were later identified as cocaine and ketamine. All three were then arrested.
West Yorkshire Police took over the investigation, uncovering further evidence against the men. Furusa, Mupfudza, and the third individual – a 19-year-old man – were charged with possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs as well as possession of criminal property. A significant amount of cash was also recovered.
The 19-year-old is yet to stand trial for his charges, according to police.
Detective Inspector John Graham commended the security staff who initially detained the suspects:
“I would like to thank the security staff for acting on their instincts and detaining these individuals quickly, which allowed our officers to make these arrests.
“I hope these sentences serve as a warning to people that we take the supply of illegal drugs seriously and anyone caught in possession of these substances can expect to face a prison sentence."
