Leeds United bid to expand Elland Road has cleared a major hurdle, with City Council planners recommending the scheme for approval earlier this week.

Planning officers have endorsed the project to increase the stadium's capacity to approximately 53,000, alongside improved admission and hospitality facilities.

Public consultations held prior to the submission of the application showed strong support among fans and local residents.

98% of respondents backed the overall proposals, 97% supported the capacity increase, and 99% approved of the local economic benefits tied to the project.

The planning application submitted in July included detailed designs for upgrading the West Stand and an outline for the North Stand changes.

Away supporters will continue to be housed within the West Stand during and after the project completion.

Seating behind the South Stand goal would remain exclusively for home supporters to maintain the atmosphere the stand is well-known for.

Wider improvements to transport links around the stadium are also being considered.

The scheme could secure final approval as soon as early next year, with another meeting scheduled for January 8.
