Workers at Leeds Bradford Airport are escalating their strike action in a dispute over pay disparities compared to Newcastle Airport staff.

The strikes, involving nearly 130 workers including air traffic controllers, customer service, security, and cleaning staff, are expected to lead to disruptions.

Unite the Union claim Leeds Bradford workers earn less than their Newcastle counterparts, despite Newcastle having a lower cost of living.

The strike action is scheduled for 16th October to 18th October, and another round is planned from 23rd October to 2nd November, coinciding with the half-term period.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham has criticised the pay gaps and pledged full support for striking workers, emphasising their essential roles at the airport.

Leeds Bradford Airport responded by expressing disappointment at the strikes, highlighting offers above inflation and committing to discussions for a resolution.

The airport stresses that it aims to maintain near-normal operations during the strikes and that positive developments in infrastructure are underway.
