Leeds man appears in court accused of murdering baby son in 2020

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his baby son six years ago.
Police said Niall Worsfold, 29, of Farrow Road, Leeds, has been charged with the murder of the infant who was one month old at the time.
The force said the baby, whose name has not been released, died in hospital on July 10 2020 after being admitted six days earlier from an address in Lincombe Drive, Gledhow.
Worsfold has also been charged with one count of child cruelty, West Yorkshire Police said.
On Monday, Worsfold made his first appearance before a crown court judge in Leeds.
The defendant, who appeared via video link from prison and appeared tearful throughout the hearing, was not asked to enter pleas to the charges.
A trial, expected to last up to four weeks, was scheduled to start on February 22 next year.
Worsfold was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Leeds Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 7.
Judge Howard Crowson told him: “The prosecution will make sure all evidence is available to your lawyers by August 24.
“I think you already know what’s alleged against you in pretty clear terms.”
Police said a 25-year-old woman, who was arrested as part of the investigation, has been released with no further action.
