Four men from Kirklees have been charged with perverting the course of justice after allegedly helping a man leave the UK to avoid his trial and subsequent conviction for serious sexual offences.

Those charged are:

Ahsan Ul-Haq, 55, from Trueman Avenue, Heckmondwike

Daniyal Hussain, 24, from Ealand Crescent, Batley

Mohammed Assad, 25, from Trueman Avenue, Heckmondwike

Junaid Khan, 26, from Marsland Street, Wakefield

The men are accused of conspiring to assist Asif Ali, 56, from Batley, who failed to attend court in December 2023 for his trial for non-recent sexual offences.

Ali was convicted in his absence and sentenced to 24 years in prison in April 2024 after being found guilty of 14 counts of rape among other offences.

In addition, Daniyal Hussain and Junaid Khan face charges for failing to provide protected information to investigators.

Arshan Ul-Haq and Daniyal Hussain are due before Kirklees Magistrates Court on March 4 while Mohammed Assad and Junaid Khan are scheduled for March 18.,

Police investigations are ongoing to locate Asif Ali
