Man handed 23 year sentence over rape in Huddersfield

A man has been jailed for more than 20 years after being convicted of raping another man in Huddersfield town centre.
Ismail Hussain, 28 and of no fixed address, was convicted of two counts of rape at Leeds Crown Court and was sentenced to a total of 23 years.
The attack happened between 5am and 5:30am on August 2 2025 in an alleyway near New Street in Huddersfield town centre.
The victim, a man in his 20s, reported being approached and sexually assaulted by Hussain.
Hussain was identified on CCTV footage within hours and his subsequent arrested on August. 3.
Detective Inspector Jenny Haigh of West Yorkshire Police said: “We welcome the sentencing of Hussain at court for what was dreadful and predatory sexual offending."
"He targeted his victim by approaching him and then subjecting him to the very serious offences he has now been convicted of carrying out.
"I want to praise the huge courage of the victim in both reporting this appalling offence and then supporting a prosecution through the courts.
"We fully appreciate just how difficult it can be to disclose being a victim of sexual offending but can promise we do all we can to support victims who come forwards.
"All reports are investigated by specially trained safeguarding detectives who can also signpost victims to any other support services they may need.
