Huddersfield MP launches Summer school for town’s young people
Harpreet Uppal is giving the town’s young people the chance to gain first-hand experience in politics
Labour MP for Huddersfield, Harpreet Uppal, is giving the town’s young people the chance to gain first-hand experience in politics through her new Summer School initiative.
The programme, designed to help 18-24 year olds get involved in politics and community work, will take place from Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18, and includes a free visit to Parliament. Details of how to take part can be found towards the end of this article.
Speaking about the initiative, Ms Uppal said: “I regularly receive requests from young people looking for experience in an MP’s office, but unfortunately, I cannot accommodate them all.
“That’s why I am launching my first annual Summer School—to give as many young people as possible from Huddersfield the chance to see politics in action and understand the work my team and I do to represent our community.”
The Summer School will help participants develop key skills for future involvement in politics and community-based work. The selected group will take part in sessions led by experts in community development, campaigning, communications, and politics, providing valuable insights into how political and public engagement operates.
A highlight of the programme will be a trip to Parliament on Tuesday, July 15, where participants will have a guided tour and the opportunity to meet politicians, journalists, officials and advisors.
