Plans to transform a former Huddersfield business centre into a new housing development have been greenlit by Kirklees Council.

Described in application documents as “vacant” and “overgrown”, the old Ingfield Business Centre at Cherry Nook Road in Deighton was sold off by Kirklees Council in 2024 in a bid to raise some cash. The site, which is made up of 16 units, was purchased for £200,000 and now, plans to develop have been approved.

The applicant, Stephen & T Ltd, will be constructing residential properties on the plot of land, moving away from its former business use. There will be seven flats, each with between one and three-bedrooms. The development would also come with 13 car parking spaces.

While the site is described as “vacant” and “overgrown”, it includes a two-storey building said to be in good condition with existing vehicle access, driveway and car parking at rear. To the rear of the building is woodland, with the wider area surrounded by residential properties.

Existing landscaped areas will be restored, as will existing “dilapidated” parking areas. A new disabled ramp and amended access will also be installed.

The Design and Access Statement on behalf of the applicant concluded: “The proposals provide high quality housing to meet local needs, in a sustainable location and will significantly contribute to the housing supply in the local area.”

Plans for another property auctioned off around a similar time have also just been approved by the local authority. With this recent permission, Fartown Village Hall can now be converted into a mosque. The property was sold for £322,000.
