Halifax Panthers have had their RFL membership withdrawn after being placed in compulsory liquidation at the High Court on Monday.

Despite the club's attempts to have their membership transferred to another existing company, this was rejected by RFL officials.

It means Halifax's opening Betfred Championship fixture against Sheffield Eagles has been cancelled, and all the club's players automatically become free agents.

Halifax are the second club to be unable to start in next season's second tier after Featherstone Rovers were also thrown out of the competition last month.
