Happy 130th birthday, Halifax Borough Market – a day of celebrations
The Grade II listed Victorian building was completed in 1896 and is currently undergoing a refurb.
Music, workshops, tours, a record fair, a kids’ trail – even a visit from the Town Crier – it all adds up to a packed Saturday marking Halifax Borough Market’s 130th anniversary.
This Saturday, July 25, marks the market’s special milestone and events to entrain you while you shop will be held throughout the day.
The day will see the market host live music, including a choir and a brass band, while long-serving Les Cutts will also give voice to the occasion.
There’s also a musical link to one of the market’s regular events – the Albany Arcade will host a Record Fair.
Halifax Civic Trust are organising a Kid’s Trail, while workshops include a sketch workshop with Shoreditch Sketcher, which runs from 10am to noon.
There are also Food Tours taking place between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

One event has already “sold out” – a tour of the famous Streets In The Sky.
The Streets In The Sky are two hidden terrace streets of houses built on top of Halifax Borough Market’s roof, originally for market traders and now partly lived in and used by businesses.
In his report to full council this week, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for Economic Regeneration, Coun Keith Ingle, notes this is the latest of a number of such tours and “tickets were sold out within minutes.”
The team have facilitated five tours so far in July with nearly 100 attendees – more are planned for later in July and throughout August, reported Coun Ingle (Reform UK, Halifax Town).
