Leeds families failed by maternity services slam former Health Secretary over "radio silence"
Families in Leeds failed by the hospitals maternity services said they are disappointed in the former Health Secretary for the "radio silence."
Families affected by failings in maternity care at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (TLTH) have said they are disappointed by what they call “radio silence” from former Health Secretary.
Wes Streeting resigned from Government last week after saying he’d lost confidence in the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer.
Campaigners in Leeds had worked with him for two years before securing an inquiry chaired by former midwife Donna Ockenden.
Amarjit Kaur Matharoo, whose daughter was stillborn at Leeds General Infirmary in 2024, said hearing nothing from him in the past week is upsetting. She said: "He Wes Streeting told us to our face, we're a very formidable campaign group.
"So it's like, well, if we are, why have you not bothered like to even reach out? Because he could still have sent something through the Department of Health.
"He might not work there anymore, but he can still send those messages out to families across the country and we've just had radio silence."
TLTH has previously apologised to the bereaved families.
We have approached Wes Streeting and The Department for Health for a comment.
