A PLANNING inspector has been urged to overturn a Bradford Council decision to refuse plans for an advertising sign overlooking the M606.

An application for a 6.5m wide x 2.5m high digital sign fitted onto the side of the PEC building on Commondale Way was refused by the Council earlier this Summer.

Planning officers said it was “wholly inappropriate” to fit an advertisement that was likely to distract drivers on a busy motorway.

They said: ““A digital advertisement display on the subject building, immediately adjacent to the motorway would cause a distraction for motorists which would result in detriment to public/highway safety.”

Now applicant Surjit Singh has lodged an appeal against that decision.

The appeal includes numerous photos of similar signs next to other motorways and busy roads across the country.

It adds: “I believe there has been no concerns over incidents occurred due to these boards.

“The examples I have attached are much larger boards in size compared to the one which we are proposing and they are also located on motorways which I believe have a higher volume of traffic compared to the M606.

“I believe it gives the building more of a modern day look.”

A planning inspector will decide on the appeal at a future date.
