Police appeal for witnesses following fatal crash in Castleford
The car is believed to have crashed into a water treatment facility
West Yorkshire Police are launching an appeal for witnesses following a fatal crash in Castleford.
Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on Wheldon Road at around 6:19am on Sunday morning (January 12th).
When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a car had come off the road and crashed into a water treatment facility, partially submerging the car in water.
Emergency services were called to the scene to retrieve the driver and the two passengers that been travelling with them.
Two people - a man and a woman, both 21, were taken out of the vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment.
A third person had been found nearby the vehicle requiring immediate medical treatment, but despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries into the crash revealed that the deceased man was aged 18 and from the Wakefield area.
Following their investigations, West Yorkshire Police arrested the two other people who had been pulled from the car on suspicion of causing by dangerous driving.
Wheldon Road was closed to the public shortly after the discovery of the car, but has now reopened to the public.
The force are now appealing to those who may have information to get in touch as soon as possible.
