A Leeds man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a dangerous driving incident that led to a high-speed pursuit last summer.

Ashley Parr, 35, from Moorland Drive, Guiseley, was sentenced yesterday (Monday 20th April) at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to charges of dangerous driving, drug driving, and drink driving. In addition to his prison sentence, Parr was handed a driving ban lasting three years and eight months.

The incident took place at around 9.10pm on 21st July 2025 when a member of the public reported a vehicle driving dangerously near Garrowby Hill on the A166 in the East Riding.

The BMW 3 Series, registered to a Leeds address, was later sighted by Traffic Constable Nick Simpson at the A64 Fulford Interchange near York who tried to stop it.

However, the driver failed to comply, reaching speeds of 130mph on the A64 and increasing to 140mph on the A1 southbound before a crash at a roundabout near junction 42 of the A1(M). Selby Fork.

TC Nick Simpson commented on the incident, saying, “This was extremely dangerous driving that could easily have resulted in the death of other road users, as well as the driver himself.”

North Yorkshire Police has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety on the roads, emphasising the importance of driving responsibly.

Simpson expressed gratitude to the public member who reported the dangerous driving: "I would also like to thank the member of the public who reported this driver. If you witness driving that poses an immediate danger to others, please call 999."
