Kirklees' Reform UK Group Leader has sworn there will be “no interruption” after a councillor quit less than two months after being elected.

Reform UK Councillor representing Almondbury, Craig Wiles, resigned from his post at Kirklees Council yesterday (June 25), leaving fellow councillors for the ward, Pip Harvey and Gill Floyd, to continue working as a duo.

His resignation is the first of the municipal year, and comes at a boiling point for the council – with still no decision yet on who should lead.

Speaking on his behalf in a short statement, Group Leader for Reform UK, Councillor Sarah Wood’s short statement read: “Yesterday Coun Craig Wiles submitted his resignation as a Councillor for Kirklees Council.

“We look forward to contesting the forthcoming by-election, and to continue to serve, support and represent the people of Almondbury.

“In the meantime, Coun Pip Harvey and Coun Gill Floyd (both for Reform UK) will carry on providing strong representation for Almondbury residents, ensuring there is no interruption to the work already underway.”

Previously, when the trio were elected, Coun Wiles had joined his Almondbury colleagues in thanking the people of Kirklees for “believing” in them.
