A LONG empty pub could soon be converted into an ice cream factory if new plans are approved.

Bradford based S & R Dairy has applied for planning permission to convert the former Mill Lane pub on Mill Lane into an ice cream manufacturing centre.

The plans say there is “not enough competition” in the country’s Asian Ice Cream market – and this business will help boost the sector.

The pub – once a Royal Air Force Association building, will be remembered by many for the classic car that was installed on its roof for many years.

It is located in an industrial area of the city – between Manchester Road and Wakefield Road, and has been vacant for around four years.

The application says: “There are only two Asian Ice manufacturers nationally.

“There is not enough competition nationally and locally.

“Given this property has been vacant for over four years and was previously a public house with mixed success, but the recent decline in the hospitality sector it closed through lower footfall and what not financially viable (sic).

“It had been marketed for this empty period with no takers.

“It would be good sense and financial management to have a new employer creating work for eight full time employees within the Bradford area, and also for local suppliers.”

A decision on the application is expected in the New Year.
