Nine people have been arrested by Immigration Enforcement officers in Bradford, on suspicion of working in the UK illegally.

The group were detained at the junction of Naples Street and Whetley Lane yesterday morning (March 11).

It's believed they were waiting for a van to pick them up for work.

The nine comprised of including six Afghans, one Nigerian, one Bangladeshi and one Ethiopian national.

One of those detained was identified as a failed asylum seeker and is being held pending removal from the UK.

Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Dame Angela Eagle, said:

“This operation is a great example of how teams across the country are acting on strong intelligence and taking initiative to put a stop to illegal working in our communities.

“Immigration rules must be respected and enforced to stop the abuse of our borders, vulnerable people and the economy.

“That’s why, under our Plan for Change, we’re ramping up enforcement activity to record levels and removing more people with no right to be here, to send a clear message that there is no hiding place from the law.”
