Brad Arthur hails fitting Leeds tribute to late Rob Burrow as Rhinos win MND Awareness game
Tries from Chris Hankinson and Maika Sivo blew the door open for the Rhinos in front of the stadium’s biggest Super League crowd for six years
Leeds boss Brad Arthur says his side showed bravery while paying tribute to the late Rob Burrow in their 34-8 win over Betfred Super League champions Hull KR.
On the occasion of the club’s annual MND Awareness Game, tries from Chris Hankinson and Maika Sivo blew the door open for the Rhinos in front of the stadium’s biggest Super League crowd for six years, and further efforts in the second period from Sivo, Jake Connor and Ash Handley rubber-stamped the win for Leeds.
Arthur said: “We spoke earlier in the week about being brave for Rob and his family, I thought we were extremely brave tonight.
“I still think there’s plenty to improve, but we’ve got to be happy.”
Willie Peters felt his Robins were up against the best team in the league.
He said: “We were playing the best team in the competition – for large parts we held our own.”
York boss Mark Applegarth was happy to see his side “grind out” a 20-14 victory over Castleford to end a run of six successive defeats.
He said: “When your confidence is down you’ve got to grind those wins out. We got back to that DNA we’re known for.”
Castleford coach Ryan Carr said: “It was schoolboy stuff. We came here to play the game we wanted to play – but we don’t make kicks, kick it out on the full.”
