Blind Huddersfield man sentenced after being caught driving drunk on M6
A court heard the now 50 year old was pulled over in June after he'd managed to drive 150 miles to Cumbria
A blind drink-driver from Huddersfield who was pulled over on the M6 in Cumbria earlier this year has been handed a suspended sentence.
Anthony Hall, 50 and of Lees Close, had driven 150 miles before being stopped north of Carlisle, having followed the red rear lights of a lorry.
Kirklees Magistrates Court heard Hall went blind two years ago, did not have a licence and wasn't insured.
He was driving his partner's Vauxhall Meriva, which was spotted weaving between lanes and drving on the hard shoulder at 1:45am on June 29.
He'd taken the car without permission and had refuelled along the way, with the assistance of a staff member at a petrol station.
Hall arrived into court earlier wearing dark glasses and walking with a cane.
The court heard he wanted to get away from home and to Scotland, due to 'ongoing disagreements' with family, partly over finances.
He was also described as an "individual in crisis" at the time of the offending and has no previous convictions.
Bench Chair Tracey McErlain-Burns sentenced Hall to 36 weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months.
