76 year old woman injured during attempted mugging in Huddersfield
Police want to trace a man who tried to snatch her handbag
A 76 year old woman has suffered injuries to her face following an attempted mugging in Huddersfield town centre.
It happened at around 2:30pm yesterday (January 15) on Dundas Street near the bus station.
A man wearing a baseball cap pushed the victim from behind, causing her to fall.
He attempted to grab her handbag but ultimately left empty handed after passers by stepped in to help the victim.
She was treated in hospital but has since been discharged.
The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap and as having a dark beard.
DS Andy Holmes, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This was a particularly nasty offence in which the suspect has approached a 76-year-of victim and shoved her to the ground, causing her to sustain facial injuries.
“It is fortunate she was not more severely injured and I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident or suspect or who stopped to assist the victim to contact us.
“We have issued a CCTV still of a suspect and, while I appreciate the still does not give a clear view of his face, we think it is important to release it in case anyone saw a man fitting the suspect’s description near the bus station at the time of the assault.
“Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact the Kirklees District Crime Team on 101 referencing police crime number 13250024964.
“Information can also be given online at https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
