A community centre has been given a £365,000 price tag after being put up for auction.

Strawberry Lane Community Centre in Armley has been put on the market by Leeds City Council.

The authority said the building was in a poor state of repair and a sale would relieved it of maintenance costs.

The site could be demolished to make way for housing after bids were invited by Pugh Auctions.

The auction website said the centre had a car park and extensive gardens.

It said: “The property itself is a large, single-storey building comprising meeting, leisure and office space, along with staff areas, kitchens and toilets.

“The property would suit a number of uses but may also be suitable for demolition for the site to be redeveloped, subject to any necessary consents.”

The council said services at the centre, first built as a school in the 1970s, were being moved into another premises nearby.

The auction site said the site was near shops, schools and restaurants, and around 1.5 miles from Leeds City Centre.

It said: “The property is bound by a school the east, a church and public open space to the north and commercial premises the south.

“There are also large areas of residential property nearby.”
