Nine year old West Yorkshire girl who died in Arbroath named by police
A 35 year old man has been charged over the death of Minnie Merriman on Monday
A nine year old West Yorkshire girl who was the victim of a suspected killing in Scotland has been named as Minnie Merriman.
She was found fatally injured on the Elliot Industrial Estate just after midnight on Monday, later being pronounced dead at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
It's understood her family, who are from West Yorkshire, were on a camping holiday in the area at the time.
A 35 year old man, who was known to Minnie, has been charged over her death and is due before Forfar Sheriff Court later today.
In a statement Minnie's family said: "We are devastated with the loss of our beloved, absolutely incredible, beautiful and brave Minnie Moo. Our family asks that our privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time."
Detective Inspector Mike Ness of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team said: "Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by these events, especially Minnie's family.
"A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries continue.
"Anyone with any concerns, or information, should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, 3 August 2026."
