James Maycock, an amateur golfer and member of Headingley Golf Club, has captured attention after winning £50,000 at a tournament in Leeds with a hole-in-one.

Maycock, who survived cardiac arrest earlier this year, describes his year as being filled with luck.

About eight months ago, Maycock's life took a dramatic turn when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

“Luckily, I was in the right place at the right time," Maycock said.

"I was next to a defib machine and theatre nurse in the gym - she brought me back to life."

Maycock spent a week in the hospital, had his own defibrillator fitted, returned to golfing four weeks later, and recently got married.

He acknowledged the whirlwind of events in the last eight months.

At the ‘Par 3 shootout’ held at Headingley Golf Club, Maycock delivered a hole-in-one that the golf club has described on social media as “a moment that will be talked about for years to come.”

Feeling amazed at his achievement, Maycock said, “It’s a bit of a blur now but it was just amazing, you see holes in one on the TV but to have 80 people stood behind you and then everyone going mad, it was just a whirlwind.”
