200 Motorcyclists To Ride Through Leeds

Published 22nd May 2015

Around 200 motorcyclists are expected to ride through Leeds City Centre this afternoon.

Unlike previous years, the parade will not be marshalled by West Yorkshire Police. The Motorcyclist Campaign Action Group* (MAG) *think it is necessary to make their presence felt as they feel increasingly ignored and marginalised. With congestion in the city worsening, Leeds MAG say they're concerned at the increase in danger to motorcyclists, as they fight for diminished road space.

It's also part of their ongoing campaign to be allowed access to bus lanes like some other cities in the UK. John Nettleship from MAG told Radio Aire: "We would like to be considered, and not ignored and forgotten about.

"It's important to realise that in terms of congestion, bikes are part of the solution and not the problem. We aren't sat in traffic queues putting fumes out in the air.

"Bikes are much better for the environment than other vehicles. We deserve consideration."
