Police are seeking witnesses after a shooting that left a teenage boy seriously injured in Huddersfield.

It happened at around 9pm last night (April 8), with the 17-year-old suffering a non-life threatening leg injury for which he's since been treated in hospital.

This incident happened on a woodland path leading from Richmond Avenue to the rear of Woodlanders FC football pitch off Spaines Road in Birkby.

The teenager was found by police outside Fartown Library.

Reports suggest the boy, who was with friends, was walking along the path from the football pitch between 8.30pm and 9pm when a suspected gun was fired.

After being injured, the victim fled to the library where emergency services were contacted.

He's now been discharged from hospital.

Two masked men were reportedly seen behind trees in a snicket off Richmond Avenue shortly before the shooting.

Detective Inspector Fiona Allan of West Yorkshire Police said:

"All firearms offences, and particularly offences involving injuries, are treated exceptionally seriously and multiple enquiries are ongoing today into what took place.

"Fortunately, the injury to the victim was not life threatening but the consequences could clearly have been much worse.

"We are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and have been carrying out enquiries at the scenes overnight. Local officers have also been conducting reassurance patrols in the local area and speaking with partners.

"Our officers do want to speak with anyone who may have seen two men in balaclavas anywhere in the area near the Woodlanders FC football pitch or in the surrounding streets yesterday evening or who has information, CCTV or Dashcam footage which could assist the investigation."
