16-year-old girl dies after being found with serious injuries in Wakefield
Emergency services were called out last week to Rooks Nest Road
A 16-year-old girl has died after being found with serious injuries in Wakefield.
The teenager was found last Tuesday after officers were called out to Rooks Nest Road.
Officers were called at 8.33pm on Tuesday 29th September by the ambulance service to reports a 16-year-old girl was found lying in the road close to the bus stop.
The girl was taken to hospital but sadly passed away from her injuries in hospital on Saturday (3rd October.)
Police have launched a full investigation to establish how the girl sustained her injuries.
West Yorkshire Police say they now believe she was the victim in a fail to stop road traffic collision.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Elly Buchanan of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said:
“Our thoughts remain with the girl’s family, and we are supporting them at this horrendous time.
“Through our investigation we now believe that she was the victim of a road traffic collision, where the vehicle failed to stop at the scene, however our investigation remains ongoing.
“We are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to come forward and speak with us.”
