Three more homes on a crumbling stretch of the county's coastline are being demolished from today.

It comes off the back of 32 properties being torn down in Hemsby since December- after rapid coastal erosion made them unsafe to live in.

Over the last winter about half of the erosion predicted for the next 30 years in Hemsby took place

More than 10 metres of land has also lost in just over 12 months. 100 metres has been lost from the villages soft sandy dunes since the 1940s

"Eventually people will stop coming to Hemsby"

"It's an incredibly sad thing to see take place. It can't really be described you just watch somebody's life getting flattened in just a few minutes and you're left with a mess

"It seems that the decision has already been made of which coastal areas they want to defend and which ones they want to sacrifice and Hemsby has been sacrificed

"If the beach goes and it continues to lower further, along with the dunes that could threaten the buildings and amusement arcades all behind that.

"If all that ultimately closes, eventually people will stop coming to Hemsby as it will look rundown and there will be nothing in the area.

"If there's an erosion zone you can't really build there, so what are you going to put there".

"As summer approaches we are now hoping for a period of calmer weather"

A Great Yarmouth Borough Council spokesperson said:

‘’The council continues to liaise with homeowners following an extremely difficult winter for our coastline which saw an unprecedented rate of erosion.

"A series of storms, strong winds and high tides caused a rapid loss of land that left a number of homes much closer to the cliff edge.

‘’Providing advice and support to owners, three further properties on The Marrams are scheduled to be demolished over the next two weeks.

‘’The coastal management team continues to monitor and map ongoing erosion closely - including the use of specialist drone equipment - and officers have been making house calls to meet with residents regularly to keep them informed and explain all the options available.

‘’It has been an extremely difficult period for those affected, but making sure residents and the public are safe is of paramount importance. Doing nothing is simply not an option along one of the fastest eroding coastlines in northern Europe and there will inevitably be further loss of land.

"How we plan for that and provide information about the options available to people remains the primary focus.

‘’As summer approaches we are now hoping for a period of calmer weather.’’
