There's celebration after the rehoming of Paddy the Basset Hound Dachshund Cross, who has found his happy place after over 400 days with the Dogs Trust at their centre in Snetterton.

Having been handed over to the charity as a young puppy, staff say Paddy's rehoming journey took longer than expected, with lots of patience, training and time going into helping him.

With several adoption attempts falling through, including one where Paddy was returned after more than a year due to a change in his adopters' circumstances, the Dogs Trust team worked to give him the extra support needed to help him find his happy place.

Paddy was given a bespoke training plan designed to ease his anxieties around vet visits, help him shed a bit of weight, and build his confidence when meeting new people. The Dogs Trust team also trained Paddy to be comfortable wearing a muzzle when out on walks, due to his worries around strangers, and helped him learn when to retreat to a safe, cosy space when feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated.

After 403 days and two Christmases with the charity, Paddy's hard work paid off when he met Dominika and Philip, who took the time to build a relationship with Paddy, even taking him for home visits and a sleepover, before bringing him home for good.

Speaking about Paddy's adoption, Dominika and Philip said: "We haven't had him home for long, but he has already shown us more of his quirky personality and confidence too. His favourite activity is getting snuggled up under a blanket and sleeping, so I am sure we will be doing lots of this over the festive period!

"I think all the Dogs Trust Snetterton team who looked after Paddy would agree he is a quirky little guy, and he has already made a lasting impression on us!"

Kelly Smith, Manager at Dogs Trust Snetterton, said: "After more than 400 days with us, Paddy's happy rehoming isn't one we are likely to forget, and shows how the right care, training, time and support can help a dog find their forever home, regardless of their background.

"We're so pleased to see Paddy in his happy place for Christmas, but we still have so many dogs just like Paddy who are still looking for their forever homes, so if you are interested in welcoming a dog into your life, please visit our website or visit us in person."
