New Green City Council leader outlines plans for a cleaner, fairer Norwich

Councillor shares priorities for improving the city and acknowledges internal improvement's

Norwich residents can expect changes to litter, housing and homelessness under the leadership of the city council's new green leader, Councillor Lucy Galvin, who aims to address key issues affecting daily life in the city.

Lucy outlines priorities such as cleaner streets, stronger actions against fly-tipping, and increasing waste bins as part of efforts to improve everyday experiences.

These motives reflect feedback the council has received from Norwich citizens.

Lucy believes residents in Norwich, care about seeing visible change:

"We want to deliver really visible improvements that people can feel and see day to day, and from what people have told us they want to see, it means cleaner streets and stronger action on fly tipping and more waste bins."

The council have taken on a 0 tolerance approach to fly tipping, issuing 65 fines for fly tipping over the last 8 months.

The council have also identified flaws in the way it responds to residents, Lucy said:

" We've identified a problem where residents do not always feeling that the council gets back to them or speaks to them,

We're looking at ways to improve how we interact with residents."

Lucy also hopes make a difference in tackling homelessness across the city.

"Homelessness is an ongoing problem as a city. Obviously, there is a lack of housing for people, which we're trying to address the root cause of, "
