Norfolk dog trainer urges owners to keep an eye on pets over the Christmas break
Leading vets are renewing their warnings that things like grapes, sultanas, macadamia nuts and chocolate can be fatal for dogs
A dog trainer in Norfolk is urging other owners to keep an eye on their furry friends over the festive period and maintain their routine, to ensure they keep out of trouble.
New data from The Kennel Club shows that the number of dogs being treated after eating chocolate typically soars in December and January compared to the rest of the year.
"Even dressing your dog up can cause your dog a lot stress"
Damion Vincent is from 'Fetch Dog, Walking and Training' based near Norwich:
"If you dog is generally feeling unwell one of the biggest signs is that they will isolate themselves away in a quiet area.
"Here they will rest, recover and relax. So if that's not a normal behaviour for your dog, it's important to keep an eye on that."
Damion says it's not just food that we should be weary of:
"Be careful of pine needles that drop into the floor, because if a dog swallows any of these they could get stuck in their throat.
"Also beware of stress over this period, as your home might be busy and you might have lots of visitors.
