Norfolk hosts heartfelt events for Baby Loss Awareness Week
Local support blossoms for bereaved families
Norfolk is embracing Baby Loss Awareness Week from 9th to 15th October with meaningful events designed to support families who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss.
Laura George, a dedicated volunteer with Norfolk Sands, sadly lost her son Oscar to stillbirth in 2023. Now, she channels her love into organising local events that honour and remember precious lives lost.
Three ribbon displays have been put up across the county, the displays hold 271 names submitted, each in loving memory of a a child.
These displays are found in King's Lynn at Gayton Road Cemetery, Green Acres in Colney, and Bluebell Burial Wood in Hainford. Visitors are also welcome to add their own ribbons in remembrance.
"Baby Loss Awareness Week is a gentle reminder of the challenges in maternity care and offers mums like myself a chance to speak openly about our journeys " said Laura George.
She said the most important thing, is to make sure people dont feel alone:
"it just brings everyone together and reminds them that you're not alone.
I don't want my beautiful son to be forgotten. And it's just a way that really ensures that that doesn't happen and you get to speak their name.
I don't get to say Oscar's name enough. And this is just one way that I can, especially over the next week."
The week also includes the Starlight Walk on 10th October ( Saturday ) where the public are invited to walk around Whitlingham Country Park. Organisers say these events are aimed at encouraging reflection and conversations within the community.
