A local charity tells us more funding needs to be put into safe housing for domestic abuse

It's despite Ministers announcing that an extra 19 million is going into this- on top of 480-million already announced for councils, over the next three years.

The government's strategy to combat violence against women and girls - called a 'national emergency' - includes bringing in specialist teams to handle criminal allegations.

"For some it is quite literally a matter of life and death"

Jools Ramsey Palmer is from Leeway:

"For some it is quite literally a matter of life and death"

"Not everyone chooses to leave their home but if they do, it is likely that they will move away from their support network to somewhere that is totally confidential.

"Which is why this type of support is so important.

"This level of support is probably not enough. We know that the number of people experiencing domestic abuse is exceptionally high.

"We recognise that to be 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men in their lifetime. That's a huge amount of spaces to find".
