Emergency department improvements underway at Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn
local revamp aims to enhance patient care and treatment time
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital at King's Lynn has begun its multi-million-pound project aimed at improving wait times and modernising its facilities.
This £2 million investment focuses on improving emergency care services by increasing clinical spaces and enhancing the Emergency Department.
Officials at the hospital say patients can expect new triage and treatment rooms and a redesigned layout for easier navigation. They say it will create a more comfortable experience for patients and their families.
Richard Parker, Chief Operating Officer at the QEH, highlighted the significance of the upgrades, saying:
“This is essential investment to enhance the emergency care we can deliver here at The QEH. It will improve how quickly patients who arrive at our front door are treated and give an improved space for both our patients and staff."
Addressing wait times at the Hospital is one of their top priorities.
"For more complicated patients that require a bed, we struggle to see them, treat them and either discharge them or admit them within 4 hours,
for the simpler patients, about 75% of patients, we managed to turn around within 4 hours" Richard said.
He hopes that the project will mean up to 90% are seen and discharged within 4 hours.
"We are pushing really hard to get back to the level of timeliness, treatment and timeliness that we had before COVID" Richard said.
Officials from the hopsital also say disruptions are inevitable but wont effect patients care:
"There's inevitable disruption, but we're pretty clear that it won't affect their clinical care. It will feel just a little bit strange because there's obviously building works going on," Richard said.
The reconfigured area is expected to be completed and open to patients by April 2027.
