Wells Lifeboat crews were exceptionally busy on Saturday
A lifeboat station in North Norfolk says 40 people were cut off by the tide in just a few hours as crowds flocked to the coast to enjoy the hot weather over the weekend.
Wells RNLI says crews were exceptionally busy on Saturday (21 June) with 30 people reported stranded on a sandbank at Brancaster and 10 at Wells beach.
They added that there were more reports of people putting their lives in danger trying to wade back to safety.
In a statement on Facebook the RNLI said: "At 11:43am, our inshore lifeboat launched to reports of around 30 people cut off on a sandbank at Brancaster. Most made it back safely, but Hunstanton RNLI hovercraft assisted Ten people.
"Wells crew checked on two individuals still on Scolt Head Island, confirmed they were safe and well, and gave important tide safety advice
" Shortly after returning, at 12:24pm the crew were re-tasked to Wells beach after multiple people were seen cut off by the incoming tide. Seven adults, Three children and Two dogs were safely recovered from the sandbank."
Anyone cut off by the tide should call 999 and give as accurate location as they can to the call handler.
