An investigation is underway after police uncovered a cannabis farm in a residential property in Redditch earlier this week.

Officers were called to a house on Larkfield Road on Wednesday morning, 20th January, after concerns were raised that the property had been left insecure. Upon entering, police found a cannabis grow spanning multiple rooms of the house.

During the search, officers seized over 50 mature cannabis plants as well as several that had already been harvested.

Two men, aged 33 and 50, were arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and have been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Link to organised crime groups

The investigation is being carried out by officers from Proactive CID. Detective Constable Vince highlighted that large-scale cannabis operations such as this could be linked to organised crime.

“Cannabis grows of this scale and nature are often linked to serious organised crime groups,” DC Vince said.

“The impact they have on a community and victims can go far beyond the growing and selling of cannabis, and such activity will not be tolerated.

“We arrested and interviewed two people in relation to the incident on Wednesday, and they have been bailed as our enquiries continue.”

Police are urging members of the public to report any suspicions of illegal drug activities or cannabis farming in their area.
