West Midlands Police have been rated at the highest level under a new national Policing Performance System, according to a report released by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).

The force has been placed in Level One, the top tier of the four-level assessment, marking West Midlands Police's significant strides in crime prevention and community service over the past three years.

Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Jen Mattinson praised the force's progress, focusing on efforts to prevent crime and protect residents from harm.

Jen Mattinson said: “West Midlands Police has been on a rapid journey of improvement during the last three years, focused on preventing crime, responding and protecting people from harm and delivering the very best service possible to victims."

"We recognise this is a never-ending journey as one crime is one too many, but we are absolutely committed to relentlessly improving services, putting people who live, work and travel in the West Midlands at the heart of everything we do to keep them safe."

The introduction of the Policing Performance System aims to bolster the national evaluation of police forces, highlighting areas needing further development and recognising successful practices.

Although proud of the recognition, Mattinson stressed the importance of continued progress and strengthening trust within local communities.

Mattinson said: “While we are extremely pleased with what the force has achieved, and to be recognised nationally as performing at this level, we are not complacent and acknowledge there are still opportunities where we can improve services and build trust with communities.”

West Midlands Police’s performance acknowledges the dedication of officers, staff, and volunteers committed to enhancing safety and service quality in the region.
