A man from Bedworth has been given a prison sentence after he hid a phone from Warwickshire Police containing indecent images of children.

Shane Jaques, 34, had already been convicted of possessing indecent images of children, but avoided a prison sentence.

As part of his punishment, Jaques had been given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order - requiring him to tell police about any and all digital devices he had.

During investigations into Jaques last year, it was discovered that he had hidden another phone - resulting in him being re-arrested so the phone could be seized and examined.

When the phone was analysed, officers found several indecent images of children on the phone, resulting in him being charged with possessing indecent images of children and breaching his order.

He was remanded into police custody to appear before Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday (June 4th).

At his court date, the presiding judge sentenced Jaques to three years and three months in prison.

Speaking on the verdict, Detective Sergeant Kim Stafford from Warwickshire Police said: "The management of sex offenders doesn’t stop when they leave prison. We work around the clock to hold offenders like Jaques to account.

“With Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, we constantly monitor them and – when there are any breaches – they can expect us to be taking them back into custody and putting them before the courts.

“Viewing indecent images of children creates a demand which causes yet more children to be abused.

“Anyone in this county viewing indecent images of children can expect to see detectives at their door, sooner or later.”
