Walsall woman donates lifesize Shrek cake to local food banks
Lara Mason gave herself one week to build the replica of the movie character
A woman from Walsall has constructed a lifesize version of Shrek entirely out of cake before donating it to local food banks.
Lara Mason runs her own bakery company and has already made similar scale cakes, including replicas of the Grinch, Taylor Swift and Ryan Reynolds.
The cake stood at over 1.98 metres tall - equivalent to over 6ft 5in - and is made of chocolate ganache and over 50 layers of vanilla sponge.
Baker Lara, who has been baking goods for over a decade, gave herself a total of seven days to finish the task - admitting that she had never made a cake so tall.
Lara has shared her process of building the Shrek cake, joking along the way that "even ogres have layers", as she documented how the cake came to life.
She admitted that as time went on, the process of building the cake became more tough, with Lara almost ending things early after the face fell off.
After admiring the finished product, Lara went on to cut the cake into small boxes to donate them to local food banks in the area.
She went to the Walsall North Foodbank in Pelsall and Cannock, as well as the District Foodbank in nearby Chadsmoor to provide the cake to those in need.
