Two men have been jailed for beating a man to death in Birmingham

Two men have been today been jailed for beating a man to death following a vicious assault in Birmingham.
Craig Dean, known to his friends as Yankee, was stood outside an address on Springfield Road, Moseley, on 7 July, when an argument began over text.
Pulling up outside the address, at around 4.50pm, Hamza Khan, aged 23, and
25-year-old Mohammed Rahman got out and began to attack Craig.
Not content when he fell to the ground, Khan and Rahman carried on attacking him, kicking him numerous times, and stomping on his head, before driving off as their victim lay seriously injured.
An investigation began with officers working around the clock to identify those responsible.
Just two days later (9 July), Craig’s life support was switched off and he sadly died.
Putting together all the evidence, and carrying out CCTV trawls, the team identified the car used by Khan and Rahman leading them to identify the pair as suspects.
Finding the Vauxhall Corsa a short distance away and running forensic tests on two drink cans, their suspicions were confirmed when Khan’s and Rahman’s DNA was found.
Time was up for Khan, of Anderton Park Road, Birmingham, when he was arrested on 16 July, found inside a holiday rental property in Worcestershire.
Rahman of Mapleton Grove, Birmingham, had also attempted to flee and was arrested at Heathrow Airport when he returned to the UK on 25 July.
Both men were charged with murder.
Last month, both were convicted of the offence at Birmingham Crown Court.
Today (24 February), they were sentenced to life in prison, with Khan to serve a minimum of 17 years, and Rahman to serve a minimum of 17 years and six months.
Craig’s daughters, who have been supported by specially trained officers throughout the investigation and trial, previously released a statement thanking the community
for their kind words and support they’ve received:
“We as Craig’s daughters sincerely appreciate all of the kind words said about our Dad and everyone that has taken interest in this case, demanding justice on his and our families behalf.
“The Facebook group which was created by your community in memoriam of Craig has 600 members, which is a testament to how loved he was and his impact on everyone that knew him.
“He was an amazing father, and we want to thank everyone that took the time to get to know him or has shown support to our family during this horrific time.
“We will never forget the kindness you have shown us.”
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, who led the investigation, said: “We welcome the lengthy prison sentences given to Khan and Rahman for the brutal and senseless murder of Craig Dean, known as ‘Yankee’ to his friends.
“Our thoughts remain firmly with Craig’s family and loved ones, who have shown strength and dignity throughout this difficult process.
“I would like to thank the dedicated investigators and partner agencies who worked tirelessly to secure these convictions.
“There is absolutely no place in our society for this level of violence and West Midlands Police remains resolute in our commitment to pursue those who commit serious violent offences and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.”
