Two men are facing jail terms after admitting a serious assault outside a pub in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police were called to reports of disorder on Erdington High Street on July 2nd 2025, after a man had been injured by a glass bottle.
CCTV showed the victim seemingly trying to calm down an argument between Omar Clarke and a woman, after which Clarke then pushed the man, and hit him with a glass bottle.
Herbert Palmer, who was nearby, joined the attack, as the victim tried to protect himself, smashing a bottle over his head as he walked away.
Detectives tracked the pair down, and both were arrested and subsequently charged over the assault.
On Wednesday 7 January 2026 at Birmingham Crown Court, Clarke, aged 35, of Beech Dean Grove, pleaded guilty to Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Palmer, aged 59, of Parkhouse Drive, pleaded guilty to Section 20 Grievous Bodily Harm.
Both will be sentenced in March.
Detective Constable Amelia Rose said: “The guilty plea reflects the gravity of the violence used and the serious long-term impact the attack has had.
“Grievous Bodily Harm is amongst the most serious violent offences and this outcome ensures both men will be held accountable for their actions.”
Detective Inspector Tom Lyons added: “Our team have maintained a presence in Erdington, using their impressive skills and unique knowledge to help tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.
“We’re still working hard with neighbourhood and response colleagues to prevent offences around Erdington High Street, and diligent investigative work here has seen two dangerous offenders removed from it.”
