Birmingham's reaction to Synagogue attack in the North West
MPs, Faith groups and other organisations are starting to share statements of their reaction on this today
People and groups across Birmingham have been reacting to the devastating attack on a Synagogue today.
Two people have died and a man has been shot by armed police after a car was driven at pedestrians and a person was stabbed in a suspected terror attack outside a synagogue on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
Greater Manchester Police said three others are in a serious condition following the attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, on Middleton Road in Crumpsall.
The force declared a major incident, and confirmed a bomb disposal unit was sent to the scene.
The force said it had "declared Plato" - the national codeword used by police and emergency services when responding to a "marauding terror attack".

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said "additional police assets" will be deployed at synagogues across the country following the attack.
He held an emergency Cobra meeting earlier today, cutting short a trip to Denmark.
He told reporters he was "appalled" at the attack, adding:
"The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific."
The King said he and the Queen were "deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community".
Charles, in a message issued by Buckingham Palace, said his thoughts and prayers were with all those affected by "this appalling incident" as he praised the "swift actions" of the emergency services.
Birmingham's Reaction
West Midlands Police told us: "We know our communities will be shocked and understandably upset by the incident at a synagogue in Manchester earlier today.
Our thoughts are with those affected by what has happened.
We have strong relationships with our Jewish communities and we'll have increased patrols in and around places of worship across the West Midlands over the coming days."
The Leader of Birmingham City Council said: "Appalling scenes at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. My thoughts are with everyone caught up in this horrific attack."
Home Secretary and Birmingham Ladywood MP, Shabana Mahmood, said: "I am horrified by the news of an attack at a synagogue in Manchester today, on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
My first thoughts are with the victims, our brave police and emergency services."
MP for Edgbaston, Preet Kaur Gill said: "Deeply shocked by the attack at Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester this morning.
My thoughts are with all those injured, their loved ones, and the wider community shaken by this horrifying incident. Grateful to the emergency services for their swift response."
