A woman who was assaulted outside a supermarket in Stourport in Worcestershire on Wednesday has died from her injuries.

Earlier, it was reported that two people had been arrested following the incident, which took place outside the Lidl on Vale Road on Wednesday afternoon (May 28th).

In the incident, a man aged 65 and a woman aged 71 were assaulted by a second woman aged 62 and a second man aged 67.

All four left the area following the incident, which West Mercia Police believe took place between 4pm and 8pm.

Following lines of enquiry, the 62-year-old woman and the 67-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm; they currently remain in police custody.

However, in a new update, West Mercia Police confirmed that the 71-year-old woman who had been assaulted during the altercation had now succumbed to her injuries.

The force added that the two people arrested for the assault have since been re-arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.

Enquiries into the death are now being investigated further, while officers continue to appeal for calm, urging people from the local area to avoid speculation and respect the woman's privacy in death.

Meanwhile, officers from the force are now asking the public to get in touch with any information they may have.

Speaking on the case, Detective Inspector Warren Matthews from West Mercia Police said: "Enquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage from Lidl car park.

“Please get in contact with us if you think you have information which could help in our investigation.”

Anyone who may have any relevant information relating to the incident can get in touch by emailing Detective Inspector Matthews on [email protected].
