Stoke man charged following incident near Birmingham school

A man’s been charged following an incident near a school in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police were called to Vaughton Street South at 3.15pm on Tuesday, following a report of a man assaulting members of the public.

Officers were quickly at the scene and a man was detained.

Following a thorough investigation into the circumstances around what happened, Aron Tesfamriyam, from Stoke-on-Trent, has subsequently been charged with three counts of attempted kidnap, three counts of assault by beating, and one count of affray.

The 27-year-old appeared at Birmingham Crown Court earlier today where he was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing next month.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident but we understand the concern it caused to the community at the time.

Officers have remained in close contact with the school and local residents this week as patrols around the area have continued.
